As a leading Web and Hosting provider, SYDHost is committed to the protection of personal privacy and has implemented a set of privacy principles based on the obligations under the Privacy Act 1988 (the 'Privacy Act'), including the new sections of the Act introduced as of 21st December 2001.

1.0 Collection of personal information
SYDHost's privacy policy will cover all information that customers may regard as private or sensitive. Most of personal information -such as name, address, date of birth, telephone numbers, company details and credit card details- are collected to establish the best service to our customers. This applies to individuals only, and does not include businesses.

SYDHost collects your personal information to enable us to:


Set up services purchased
Understand your service requirements
Answer your queries
Keep you updated with our services
Invoice and collect payments
Identify you when you want to access or modify your service details

Giving this information is fully optional. However it is important to note that the provision of your service may not be possible without access to the relevant information. We welcome any questions on the use of personal information when any doubts arise.

2.0 The way personal information is used
The information we collect may be used to provide such capabilities as personalised services. We may contact customers with system information or information about special products, services or events.

3.0 Disclosure of personal information
The information we collect from you is strictly confidential and therefore we will not disclose or pass the content or any contact details to any third parties, other than those who are contracted to SYDHost, without your prior permission.
SYDHost will not otherwise disclose its customer personal and account information unless SYDHost has reason to believe that disclosing such personal information is necessary to identify, make contact with, or bring legal action against someone who may be causing harm or interfering with the rights or property of SYDHost.
SYDHost will only disclose personal information for a purpose other than the primary purpose of collection (a secondary purpose) if:

  1. The secondary purpose is related to the primary purpose of collection, the subject of the information would reasonably expect SYDHost to disclose the information for the secondary purpose, and the disclosure is made in the performance of a person's duties as an employee of SYDHost; or

  3. SYDHost reasonably believes that the disclosure is necessary to prevent or lessen a serious and imminent threat to an individual's life or health; or
  4. The disclosure is required or specifically authorised by law; or
  5. The disclosure is made to an officer or employee of ASIO authorised to receive it and in connection with the performance of ASIO's functions; or
  6. The disclosure is reasonably necessary for the enforcement of the criminal law or a law imposing a pecuniary penalty or for the protection of the public revenue or has been certified as reasonably necessary by an Authorised Officer of an Enforcement Agency; or
  7. SYDHost has reason to suspect that unlawful activity has been, is being or may be engaged in and discloses the personal information as a necessary part of its investigation of the matter or in reporting its concerns to relevant persons or authorities. In circumstances where disclosure may be required or authorised by or under law, SYDHost will ensure that the request for information is lawful and that personal information is only disclosed to the extent required. Where personal information is disclosed for law enforcement purposes or for the protection of public revenue, SYDHost retains a record of the disclosure.

4.0 The way to access, modify and update of information
Customers will always have access to the information and content you have provided us. In the future, SYDHost customers will have efficient access through our control panel service. You can easily edit or delete your personal information provided during registration at anytime via a password protected web interface. Alternatively, you can contact our customer service department on 02 9439 4400 for notification of changes to your name, address, title, telephone number or email address.

If you wish to access or correct personal information which you have provided via our website but cannot access the information, please send an email to us using the Contact us link.
In order to access your account information you must be registered as a current contact for the account. If a person requests access to, or to make changes to an account, and they are not listed as a contact they will be required to prove in writing that they have permission from the existing account contacts to access the account information. This can be achieved by faxing permission on company letterhead (if related to a company) and signed off by an existing contact on the account.

5.0 Security of personal information collected
SYDHost will endeavour to protect the confidentiality of customer's information, account information and personal communications. To protect customer information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access or modification that is collected from customers, SYDHost uses appropriate password protected files. A fire walled SQL server ensures secure physical, electronic and managerial procedures are in place.

6.0 Individuals privacy
SYDHost uses "Cookies" to track and record your preferences and activity on our website. Cookies are small bits of data that are sent to your browser and are stored on your computer's hard drive. They are updated as you access the many different parts of our website. We also record IP addresses when you make a purchase to ensure your transaction is not fraudulent.
It is entirely optional whether to accept cookies since you can change settings of your browser. You can reset your browser to refuse all cookies. If you choose to disable cookies, you can still access most of our websites.

7.0 Trans-border Data Flows
SYDHost will not transfer personal data outside Australia unless:

  1. SYDHost reasonably believes that the recipient of the information is subject to a statute, binding scheme or contract which effectively upholds principles for fair information handling that are substantially similar to the National Privacy Principles; or
  2. The individual concerned consents to the transfer; or
  3. The transfer is necessary for the performance of a contract between the individual concerned and SYDHost, or for the implementation of pre-contractual measures taken in respect to the individual's request; or
  4. The transfer is necessary for the conclusion or performance of a contract concluded in the interest of the individual concerned between SYDHost and a third party; or
  5. The transfer is for the benefit of the individual concerned; and
  6. It is not practicable to obtain the consent of the subject of the information to that transfer; and
  7. If it were practicable to obtain such consent, the subject of the information would give it; or
  8. SYDHost has taken reasonable steps to ensure that information that it has transferred will not be collected, held, used or disclosed by the recipient of the information inconsistently with these rules.

By using our website, you consent to the collection and use of information by SYDHost as specified above. If SYDHost decides to change this customer privacy policy, we will re-publish it on SYDHost's website at www.SYDHost.com and other divisional websites so that you are aware of the way we are collecting, protecting and disclosing personal information.
